Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

A few years ago when I was living in Fukushima, I started doing this thing where I tried to make up comics about things that happened in my daily life. I stopped doing it after a while, maybe because nothing interesting happened but more likely because I was lazy. I was just reading some webcomics over the weekend by some girl who sounds similar to me in some ways... I was just thinking, I could do that. I have seen so many webcomics done by girls who are lazy and eccentric and awkward, like me lol. But since I live in Japan it might be interesting. Of course I would have to get off my butt and actually CLEAN UP the drawings (T^T) since the ones I uploaded today weren't so good. I don't have a scanner so I end up photographing paper, but that doesn't work well. It would be better to just draw it on my computer if I bothered getting out my pen mouse.

It might also help me keep up with my journal, which seems to be in dire straits these days.

FYI I have been keeping a journal since I was 8 years old and someone gave me a blank diary for my Christmas or birthday present. As a kid I didn't write every day, but it was a habit I have kept all these years. Right now I have been keeping a diary in Japanese to improve my writing but as a result I've let it slip to the wayside in the most terrible way, going months without writing anything. So maybe going back to drawing could help motivate me to keep my diary better. And also, maybe I should go back to using English more in it... I think maybe diaries should be in your native language after all.

Go for it

Making comics is the best thing ever (and I say that as a completely impartial party with absolutely no bias toward comic making whatsoever).

There is definitely an audience out there for journal comics and anything-to-do-with-Japan comics as well, so I'm sure you'll be able to find some readers if you do decide to go for it

Yeah, I figure I have been keeping a journal for... dang 20 years now D:
I'm used to writing down things that happen and I tried my hand at making comics like that before, like I said... I even posted them on DA. Of course you know more about comics than I do. It seems like making an actual website for comics is out of my league heh. I don't know how long I will be able to keep it up, but I'll give it a go for the time being. If I like doing it then maybe I will continue.
